THE STUDY CONTEXT

Understanding Participation in the Digital Economy.

Project Engender examined digital platforms: businesses that enable value-creating interactions between external producers and consumers. The national study was commissioned by the International Labour Organization through Lagos Business School.

Its focus extended beyond a single type of platform worker. The profile records engagement with different stakeholder groups to understand the people participating in this changing business environment.

Health Professionals

Medical doctors and health workers were among the stakeholder groups surveyed.

Independent and Skilled Workers

The study included artisans, freelancers and personnel service workers.

Digital Task Workers

Microtask workers were also included in the study’s stakeholder scope.

DOCUMENTED SCOPE

A National Stakeholder Study.

The assignment is recorded for March 2022 to March 2024, with Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University as the reference organisation. Its breadth illustrates a research question that requires understanding different roles within the platform economy.
